Surabhi C.M. (stage name Surabhi Lakshmi) is an Indian film, television, and stage actor who has appeared in Malayalam television and films. She won the National Film Award for Best Actress for the Malayalam film Minnaminungu at the 64th National Film Awards. She is the fifth Malayalam actress to bag the prestigious award. Previously, Sarada, Monisha Unni, Shobhana, and Meera Jasmine had won the award. Minnaminungu the Firefly is a 2017 Malayalam film directed by Anil Thomas. Produced on a shoe string budget, film went on to win prestigious national film award. Screenplay and dialogues of the film is by Manoj Ram singh. Sunil prem is the cameraman.Ousepachan is the music director.Surabhi Lakshmi who portrayed the lead role of a struggling middle aged mother went on to win the prestigious national film award for best actress at 64th national film awards. She was a strong contender for Kerala state film award for best actress 2016, but got only special jury mention.Her character has no name in the film.'M80 Moosa' fame Surabhi Lakshmi became a household name after she recently won the Best Actress Award at the National Film Awards 2017.It's for her role in the film 'Minnaminungu' that the dancer-cum-theater artiste won the accolade. Directed by Anil Thomas, the film has her playing the role of a 45-year-old mom from Trivandrum, who is bogged down by the various issues in her life. The trailer of the movie is just out on social media and it primarily features the performance of Surabhi, who has also done many character roles in Malayalam. Surabhi, who was named the best actress in the National Film Awards for "Minnaminungu", is said she is elated to be recognised for the prestigious honour. She is the fifth actress to win National Award in Malayalam after legendary Sarada, Monisha, Sobhana and Meera Jasmine. "I never expected this award... I expected only a jury mention... I am extremely happy...I was stunned for some time when heard about the news...," Surabhi, who is away in Muscat as part of a programme, said. The actress, who did minor roles in around 20 movies and appeared in tele serials, also bagged special jury mention for her performance in the movie "Minnaminungu" (The Firefly) in the recently announced State Film Awards and Film Critics Award. Surabhi's spontaneous performance was the highlight of Anil Thomas-directed "Minnaminungu".
